Harlan Panek

Harlan Panek is a very old man. The fact that is still alive suggests either luck or a curse, we’re not sure of which. He has stories to tell, oh yes. Of the old days of Wormwood and its blooming orchards. Of his own jazz quartet and his desire to turn Wormwood into the next Kansas City. But then, alas, you ask him about 1937 and he clams right up. His eyes go wide, and he calls for his nurse to give him another shot of morphine, which she does. For the pain, he’ll tell you, but the fear behind his eyes suggests to us that this pain of his lies deep, deep within.
